Feature article/Magazine: Wonderful A Wonderful Idea
Creates a “Wonderful” Movie
In a day and age filled with over-complication, a
Hendersonville, Tennessee-based movie production house called the Extra/Ordinary
Film Project has set out to simplify the process of making films and in so
doing, produce twelve feature-length films and premier them in a twelve month
period.
Under the direction of a husband and wife team, Jon Russell and Tracy
Nicole Cring, the small independent company has launched on its task using
up-and-coming actors and depending on the generosity of patrons everywhere to
provide locations and opportunities for shooting their extremely economical
movies.
“We are presenting a new form of cinema that is laced with theater,
drama, pieces of stand-up comedy and certainly action to portray the humor and
pathos of everyday life,” says Mr. Cring from his home in
With already eight movies in the can and recognition from six film
festivals and several distribution houses, including consideration at the
Sundance Film Festival, the duo has linked with author Jonathan Richard Cring,
winner of The Best Screenplay at the Top Ten Films in America, to simplify and
conquer in a medium that normally is associated with very expensive projects and
elongated shoots.
“I am in charge of cinematography and editing, and it is my job to both
take the mystery out of the process while simultaneously inserting new ideas,
techniques and inexpensive ways to pull off the look that The Extra/Ordinary Film Project has recently spread its
wings by leaving the comfort of home in Middle Tennessee, and shooting its
latest production, Wonderful, in the Tri-County area
of Michigan—a Christmas film utilizing beautiful sites like Bronners,
Canterbury Village, Frankenmuth, Flint, Allegan and Kalamazoo.
The movie is the story of George Beaman, estranged from his wife and
child, who is on a quest on this Christmas Eve to find his way back to his
family and discover some purpose for living.
He is the number one fan of the movie It’s
a Wonderful Life, but has been unable to see any of this “wonderfulness”
seep into his own personal existence. Working
out of his own car as a taxi-cab driver, he finds himself cast into jail and
then taken on a very practical tour of “life as it is” with a rogue
character named Merchant Potter.
The film will have its world premier on Thursday night, December 6th,
2007, at 7:00 P.M. at the Palace Theater, Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the door or online at
